Description

A delightful dessert that combines hearty sourdough with sweet fresh apples, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups sourdough discard
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a cake pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Add in the sourdough discard and mix until mostly combined.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  7. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  8. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  10. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool slightly in the pan before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Best served with powdered sugar, caramel sauce, ice cream, or whipped cream.
