- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until combined.
- Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until set but still soft. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat softened cream cheese until smooth, then add powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix until creamy; add milk to reach the desired consistency.
- Once cookies are cool, spread cream cheese frosting on top of each cookie. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Dough can be frozen for later use.
