Description

These Red Velvet Cookies are soft, chewy, and topped with a luscious cream cheese frosting, a delightful treat for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 12 tablespoons milk (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until combined.
  6. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until set but still soft. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For the frosting, beat softened cream cheese until smooth, then add powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix until creamy; add milk to reach the desired consistency.
  9. Once cookies are cool, spread cream cheese frosting on top of each cookie. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Dough can be frozen for later use.
