Description

A delightful fusion of traditional Japanese mochi and American donuts that are chewy, light, and incredibly delicious.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Glaze (optional): powdered sugar, milk, flavorings like matcha or chocolate

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together glutinous rice flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine milk and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Use a piping bag or spoon to drop the batter into the hot oil in donut shapes.
  6. Fry until golden brown, then remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before dipping in glaze or topping as desired.

Notes

Store cooled donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days; refrigerate for up to a week; or freeze for up to a month.
