Description

A luxurious treat with layers of buttery shortbread, rich caramel, and silky chocolate, perfect for dessert lovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter (softened)
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 0.25 cup light corn syrup (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk)
  • 2 tablespoons butter or heavy cream (for shine)
  • Sea salt flakes (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until the dough comes together.
  4. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  5. While the shortbread bakes, prepare the caramel. In a saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and corn syrup (if using). Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture becomes thick and golden.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and salt. Pour the caramel over the baked shortbread and allow it to set for 30–45 minutes.
  7. Melt the chocolate with the additional butter or cream until smooth. Spread it over the set caramel layer.
  8. Chill the entire pan in the fridge until firm. Once set, slice into bars and sprinkle with sea salt flakes, if desired.

Notes

Best served with a cup of coffee or tea. Can store at room temperature or refrigerate for up to two weeks.
