Description

Light and fluffy French shell-shaped sponge cakes with a delightful buttery flavor, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a madeleine pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Spoon the batter into the prepared madeleine pan, filling each mold about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow the Madeleines to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.

Notes

Chill the batter for at least an hour for the signature hump. Experiment with flavors like almond or orange zest for a unique twist.
