Description

A warm and cozy cake packed with autumn spices, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your chosen baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil, mixing until smooth and creamy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then pour in the buttermilk and vanilla extract, stirring until fully combined.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. For the frosting, brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown, then let it cool slightly.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat together the browned butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy. Add in the vanilla extract.
  9. Once the cake is cool, frost it with the brown butter cream cheese frosting. Slice and enjoy!
