Description

Delicious red velvet cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting that are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 24 tbsp milk (to adjust consistency)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined.
  4. Continue adding the remaining flour, a cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon for the filling. Optional: add mini chocolate chips.
  6. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about ½ inch thick; spread the filling evenly onto the dough.
  7. Carefully roll the dough into a log, starting from the long edge. Pinch the seam to seal.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and place in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for about 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. In a medium bowl, mix together softened cream cheese, unsalted butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk for desired consistency for frosting.
  11. Once out of the oven, frost the rolls with the cream cheese frosting.

Notes

These cinnamon rolls can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature. Experiment with different fillings and toppings for variety.
