Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- Red food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles or colored sugar for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare your dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Cream the butter and sugars: In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until it’s light and fluffy.
- Add the wet ingredients: Mix in the vanilla and the large egg until everything is combined.
- Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Add some color (optional): Divide the dough into two portions and mix a few drops of red food coloring into one half.
- Shape and chill: Shape each half of the dough into logs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until firm—about 1-2 hours.
- Preheat your oven: While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice and sprinkle: Once chilled, slice the logs into 1/4-inch thick circles and sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles.
- Bake to perfection: Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Cool off: Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
