Ingredients

  • Red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  2. Cream the butter and sugars: In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until it’s light and fluffy.
  3. Add the wet ingredients: Mix in the vanilla and the large egg until everything is combined.
  4. Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  5. Add some color (optional): Divide the dough into two portions and mix a few drops of red food coloring into one half.
  6. Shape and chill: Shape each half of the dough into logs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until firm—about 1-2 hours.
  7. Preheat your oven: While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Slice and sprinkle: Once chilled, slice the logs into 1/4-inch thick circles and sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles.
