- 1 teaspoon baking powder

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons red food coloring
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla, and mix well.
- Slowly pour in the buttermilk, sour cream, and red food coloring, stirring until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
- Transfer the batter into a piping bag and pipe heart shapes onto the baking sheets, about 2 inches wide.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the filling, beat together cream cheese and softened butter until creamy. Add vanilla and gradually mix in powdered sugar until smooth.
- Assemble the whoopie pies by spreading or piping the cream filling onto the flat side of one heart-shaped cake and sandwiching it with another heart.
