Description

Delicious heart-shaped red velvet whoopie pies filled with a creamy frosting, perfect for celebrations and sweet treats.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons red food coloring
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla, and mix well.
  4. Slowly pour in the buttermilk, sour cream, and red food coloring, stirring until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  6. Transfer the batter into a piping bag and pipe heart shapes onto the baking sheets, about 2 inches wide.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. For the filling, beat together cream cheese and softened butter until creamy. Add vanilla and gradually mix in powdered sugar until smooth.
  9. Assemble the whoopie pies by spreading or piping the cream filling onto the flat side of one heart-shaped cake and sandwiching it with another heart.
