Description
A moist and decadent German Chocolate Poke Cake that combines rich chocolate, coconut, and pecan flavors in an easy-to-make dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box German chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 3 eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- ¾ cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- ½ cup butter
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract, pinch of salt, extra pecans, toasted coconut, caramel drizzle
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until well combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is still warm, poke holes all over the surface with a wooden spoon handle. In a separate bowl, warm the sweetened condensed milk and caramel slightly then pour this mixture evenly over the cake.
- Refrigerate the cake for 1–2 hours to let the filling absorb.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Mix in shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and optional vanilla extract and salt. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the frosting thickens slightly.
- Once the cake is chilled, spread the frosting generously over the top. Add extra pecans, toasted coconut, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for garnish.
Notes
For best results, make the cake the day before serving. Chilling allows flavors to meld perfectly.
