Description
Indulge in rich, fudgy brownies enhanced with the unique flavor of sourdough. Perfect for using up sourdough discard!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 8 ounces good quality dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup active sourdough starter (discard is fine)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Optional: 1 cup chocolate chips or nuts for added texture
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter and chopped dark chocolate together, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract until everything is blended.
- Mix in the active sourdough starter until creamy and combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt, then gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix!
- If using, fold in the chocolate chips or nuts gently.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before lifting them out and cutting them into squares.
Notes
For an even richer experience, serve warm brownies with vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Don’t overbake for the best fudgy texture!
