Description
A creamy and silky Spanish dessert topped with luscious caramel.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and gather your tools, including a round baking dish and a larger baking pan.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the granulated sugar until it turns into golden-brown caramel. Pour into the bottom of the baking dish to cover evenly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs, then add sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth.
- Place the caramel-coated baking dish in the larger pan and pour hot water into the larger pan until it reaches halfway up the sides of your flan dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes or until set but jiggles slightly when shaken.
- Cool in the water bath completely, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges, place a serving plate on top, and flip to release the flan with the caramel sauce flowing over it.
Notes
Flan can be served chilled or at room temperature and pairs well with fresh fruit or whipped cream.
