- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil

- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 cups milk (for custard)

- 4 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for custard)
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Stir in the boiling water carefully.
- Divide the batter into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Meanwhile, make the custard by combining milk, sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan over medium heat until thick.
- Whisk together egg yolks and add to the saucepan, cooking for 2-3 minutes before removing from heat and adding vanilla extract.
- Allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a plate, spreading custard, and topping with the second layer.
- Make the ganache by heating the cream, then pouring it over the chopped chocolate, stirring until smooth.
- Drizzle ganache over the assembled cake and let set before serving.
