Ingredients

  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until fluffy, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost and decorate as desired.
