Description

Rich, decadent Belgian Liege Waffles filled with delicious lumps of pearl sugar that caramelize into a sweet, crunchy crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup pearl sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk and yeast in a small bowl; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt; mix well.
  3. Add the frothy yeast mixture and eggs to the flour mixture; mix until combined.
  4. Incorporate the softened butter and knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Once risen, fold in the pearl sugar.
  7. Preheat the waffle iron to medium-high; scoop dough into the iron and cook until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Serve with powdered sugar or toppings like fresh fruits, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
