Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/3 cup whole milk, warm
- 2 tsp water
- 1 egg
- 2 oz apple pie filling
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2–3 tsp water (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, water, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar.
- Cut the cold cubed butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the foamy yeast mixture and the egg to the bowl. Stir just until the dough comes together.
- Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 60 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a large rectangle.
- Spread the apple pie filling down the center of the rectangle and sprinkle with cardamom.
- Fold the dough over the filling lengthwise, sealing the edges well.
- Transfer your shaped dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with egg wash if desired.
- Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool the Kringle completely on a wire rack.
- Mix the powdered sugar, vanilla, and 2-3 teaspoons of water until smooth for your glaze. Drizzle over the cooled Kringle.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days, or wrap tightly and refrigerate for up to a week.
